Cultural Research of an Early Modern Object

The presentations archived on this site are the work of students from Dr. Bertolet's Material Culture and Visual Rhetoric in Shakespeare's England course at Auburn University. Over the course of the semester, our class explored the histories and meanings of objects within the texts of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

One of our projects called for us to research the cultural significance and history of early modern objects. We were given full freedom when choosing our objects, enabling us to learn about clothing, jewelry, furniture, decorative monuments, food, and more. Our research resulted in presentations as varied and rich with detail as the objects that they cover.

This "magazine" is meant to be an exhibit the culmination of our research from these projects.
