Yoga

My yogic journey is intertwined with my research and teaching at the university, and my experiences and learning on both paths nourish, illuminate, and balance each other. My teaching philosophy in particular has shifted in a new direction, at once more reflective and contemplative but also more embodied. After earning my RYT 200 certification for teaching Vinyasa Yoga in 2015 with Peach Friedman, I obtained additional certification for teaching Prenatal Yoga (with Amani Jackson Murray), Yoga for All (with Dianne Bondy and Amber Karnes), and Divine Sleep® Yoga Nidra (with Jennifer Reis). I taught Yin, Prenatal, and Restorative classes at Yogafly Studio in Auburn 2015-2020.

I am currently offering classes in Nourishing Yoga for Women.

Together with Dr. Kate Moncrief (Washington College), I organized and taught Shakespeare Yoga at the Shakespeare Association of America conference since 2016. Turns out Shakespeare scholars love yoga--and our morning practice has provided a much-needed opportunity to recharge our bodies during the busy and largely sedentary event. If you are attending the SAA, join us for Shakespeare Yoga on Friday and Saturday mornings.

I brought yoga to my Capstone for majors in English and Education as we dove into the issues of embodiment; and to my Shakespeare students as we explored interiority. We have been known to sit down for a few minutes of meditation in my graduate class as well.
